Grant Provides Equipment and Training for Garden City Fire Rescue

Grant money has provided Garden City Fire Rescue (GA) with new equipment and improved training.

An $84,000 Scott Liberty 2 mobile air compressor arrived Monday. It was purchased through a $300,000 port security grant. Other Coastal Empire fire departments will be able to use the Liberty if the need arises due to mutual aid agreements.

Also obtained through the grant were 32 brand new self-contained breathing apparatus, or SCBA. The air packs cost more than $262,000 due to their state-of-the art masks.

Forty firefighters went to the Resolve Maritime Academy in Fort Lauderdale (FL) to gain certification to board ships and put out fires.
