Grand Rapids showed five new fire trucks to city commissioners on Tuesday.

One of the trucks is a ladder truck that will reach more than 100 feet into the air.

The medium-duty trucks also supplement water-compressed foam, said Deputy Chief Kevin Sehlmeyer.

“What we found with foam is it actually increases the suppression capacity when you add the foam to the water,” he said.

Fire officials say buying medium-duty trucks for Grand Rapids saves the city a lot of money, without compromising firefighting capability.
