The Garden City (AL) town council voted to buy a 1996 Central States pumper truck for $45,000 from Brindlee Mountain Fire Apparatus in Union Grove. The truck is due to arrive in Garden City by the end of the week, said Mayor Tim Eskew.
“We needed it because the pumper truck we have is so old,” Eskew said. “It’s a big difference going to this newer model. One of the features that really impressed me was the automatic snow chains. We don’t get much snow here, but when we do, our guys will be ready to respond if they need to.”
The purchase will come out of the fire department’s budget, he said. The town has been putting back money to purchase a new truck. Eskew said the fire truck will join the department’s fleet that includes a 2004 brush truck and 2001 pumper truck.
The new pumper truck has 47,830 miles and 4,807 hours on it, according to Brindlee Mountain Fire Apparatus.
