Forrest County (MS) Fire Departments Receive New Fire Apparatus

Two Forrest County volunteer fire departments are now in possession of some new fire trucks.

Shortly before Forrest County Board of Supervisors meeting, members from the McLaurin Volunteer Fire Department were presented with a 2015 International 7400 SBA 4×2 truck, while a 2015 International 440 truck went to Rawls Springs Volunteer Fire Department.

The trucks were purchased through Mississippi’s Rural Fire Truck Acquisition Assistance Program.

“Now we’ve got two more on the road, so that’s good,” Forrest County Board of Supervisors president David Hogan said.

Paul Morgan, captain of the McLaurin VFD, said the International 7400, which holds 1,800 gallons of water and 20 gallons of foam, will be housed at Station 1 in McLaurin.

“This truck here is going to help us keep our (Public Protection Classification) 8 rating going, and go towards hopefully one day getting a Class 7,” he said. “It’s going to replace our old tanker truck, and this is classified as a tanker-pumper.”

Morgan said the new truck will be a big help when supplying mutual aid to neighboring departments, including Dixie, Brooklyn and Carnes volunteer fire departments.
