Firefighter Injured After Three Bridges (NJ) Fire Apparatus Crash

A firefighter from the Three Bridges Volunteer Fire Department was trapped in a badly damaged fire engine after it struck a tree this morning in Raritan Township.

The truck was responding to reports of a structure fire and traveling east on Dory Dilts Road shortly after 10 when it hit black ice and left the road, township police Lt. Al Payne said. It slammed into a tree just off the left shoulder of the road, crushing the front side of the fire engine.

The driver, who was the only person in the vehicle, was trapped in the wreckage and had to be extricated by emergency responders. Payne said the man, who was not identified, was taken to the hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening after complaining of foot pain.

Payne said the truck appeared to have been totaled in the wreck.
