Fire Chief Robert Patterson said the fire department is in dire need of new vehicles to replace aging trucks and threatened to quit. According to Mayor Larry Walker, it is more cost effective to repair the older trucks instead of purchasing new ones.
“Some of those trucks just need repairs and that is what we’ve always done is maintain the trucks and pay for repairs” Walker said.
One truck has engine problems, a water pump is leaking on another. Despite these issues, volunteer fire fighter Mack Rice believes the town made the right decision.
“The trucks aren’t really in that bad of shape. But they do all have some problems here and there,” Rice said.
The Mayor says the town is applying for a grant to get a new pump truck.
Chief Robert Patterson was unavailable for comment. He is staying on the job.
