Fire Apparatus Maker Pierce Delivers Quint Aerial PUC Pumper and Quick Attack

APPLETON, WI—Pierce Manufacturing, an Oshkosh Corp. company, has announced that it has delivered three fire apparatus to the Wintersville (OH) Volunteer Fire Department. The vehicles are a 75-foot Quint heavy-duty aerial ladder, a Pierce Ultimate Configuration (PUC) pumper, and a Responder™ quick attack pumper.

“Over the years, our department’s responsibilities have grown and, after switching brands for a while, when we started looking at new apparatus again, we came back to Pierce,” said Fire Chief, Rob Herrington, of the Wintersville Volunteer Fire Department. “We were very impressed by Pierce’s advanced technology, smoothness and ease of operation, and the safety features on our new vehicles. And the Pierce team was, by far, the most responsive to our needs.”

The Quint 75-foot heavy-duty aerial ladder is built on a Pierce Velocity chassis with TAK-4® independent front suspension, a PUC pump configuration, Command Zone® advanced electronics, and green LED lighting along the three section aerial device. The Responder quick-attack pumper is built on a commercial chassis with room for four firefighters, as well as lowered crosslays and an easy-to-operate pump panel. The PUC pumper, also built on the Velocity chassis, features a Husky® 12 foam system, electric monitor with wireless controls, enclosed crosslays, and storage capacity for a wide array of rescue equipment.

“Our team checked out the PUC layout and, with its easy operation and greater storage capacity, we felt it was exactly what we needed,” added Chief Herrington. “In fact, we installed all of the equipment off our old rescue pumper onto the new PUC, and still had storage space for 30 percent of the equipment we usually kept at the station or on a pickup truck. With limited staffing a challenge, having this additional equipment on our new Pierce rescue pumper makes our firefighters safer and better prepared.”

The Wintersville Volunteer Fire Department is a private, nonprofit corporation. The department provides a wide range of services, including fire suppression, hazmat, and emergency medical services to Wintersville and surrounding communities. The department responds to about 1700 calls per year.

The local Pierce dealer, Finley Fire Equipment Co. Inc., of McConnelsville, Ohio provides service and support to the Wintersville Volunteer Fire Department.
