Fire Apparatus Kills Pedestrian in Virginia

A pedestrian was hit by a fire truck and killed Friday night near Fredericksburg (VA).

The pedestrian was hit in Stafford County, about 8:40 p.m. as he was crossing Warrenton Road (Route 17), a six-lane thoroughfare at that point, the sheriff’s office said. The truck was on its way to the scene of a car crash on nearby Interstate 95.

The pedestrian, described only as male, was in a darkened portion of the road, outside a crosswalk, according to the sheriff’s office. The driver of the fire truck tried unsuccessfully to avoid hitting him, the sheriff’s office said.

The pedestrian died at a hospital. His name was not available, and the fire truck driver was not identified.
