Fire Apparatus Hit While Responding to Accident

Police report that an East Moline (IA) fire truck responding to an injury accident Friday morning was sideswiped by a woman who was driving on a suspended license. The driver was taken into custody.

Jessica L. Brooks, 20, was approaching the scene when she lost control of her 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe and struck a parked East Moline fire truck.

Another vehicle was slowing down as it approached the accident scene and Brooks, who was traveling behind it, swerved to avoid hitting the vehicle and struck the fire truck instead.

“I’m very thankful our crews were in the proper place, or it could have been tragic,” East Moline Fire Chief Robert DeFrance said.
