An FDNY firetruck blew a tire and shattered the glass of a storefront on the Lower East Side, hurting three people and sending terrified bystanders scurrying for cover, officials said.
The truck’s tire pressure was high and it blew as members of the fire department were parking the rig in front of Snea Jeans, a women’s clothing store on Delancey Street, around 1:45 p.m., Monday, authorities said.
“Everyone in the store thought it was a bomb because it was so loud,” said worker Luz Maria Chimelis, 23. “I was really nervous.”
The glass storefront shattered and three women nearby were cut. All refused medical attention, according to the FDNY.
