Fatal Accident Involving Reece City (AL) Fire Apparatus

One person was killed and another injured during the crash which shut down the NB lanes of I-59 on Sunday morning, reports ABC 33 News.

The fire department posted to Facebook, “While doing traffic control at the scene of a vehicle accident on I-59 at the 195 mile marker north bound our engine was struck and badly damaged. NO FIREFIGHTERS WERE INJURED. Unfortunately their was one fatality in the vehicle that struck our engine. Thank you to all the ones that called or texted to check on us.”

The driver and two other passengers were transported by ambulance for medical treatment. Bad weather Sunday morning did not allow for a medical evacuation by helicopter.

The three firefighters in the wreck were sent to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

A Spokane ladder truck and pumper slid down the same icy hill. The ladder truck hit a house and the pumper hit two parked cars.
