Farmington (ME) Builds Fire Apparatus

The town of Farmington (ME) has built a firetruck as a cost-saving measure.

Chief Terry Bell says many volunteer firefighters have day jobs with the skills required to build a truck.

Lt. Tim Hardy said the truck cost around $95,000 to build. Buying a new truck could cost as much as $135,000.

The new truck replaces 25-year-old vehicle.

The project got under way last fall when the town authorized the fire department to buy the chassis and the body.
