Fairfax County (VA) Fire and Rescue Adds 100-Foot Fire Apparatus

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue is debuting a new 100-foot fire engine at Station 29 in Tysons (VA) (http://bit.ly/1KuD1DM)

Tiller Truck 429, a Pierce TDA (tractor-drawn aerial) truck, will be added to the fleet “to better match the apparatus and equipment to the response environment in the Tysons area,” read a Fairfax County Fire and Rescue news release.

Tiller trucks, also informally known as hook-and-ladder trucks, feature a semi-truck-like tractor to haul around ladders, water and equipment in the back-half of the truck.

This setup allows the truck to add length without any concern of it being able to handle tight turns or other traffic hazards in the quickly urbanizing Tysons community. It also allows firefighters to bring more equipment and to fight fires and to keep them from spreading throughout the Tysons community.
