Exeter NH voters will decide in March whether the town should buy a new ladder truck for the fire department.
The ballot will include whether $107,250 should be spent as the first payment on a lease/purchasing agreement for a new truck. The truck’s total cost would be $961,125.
The department’s only ladder truck is a 1994 E-One ladder.
Most members of the Board of Selectmen recommend voters should approve the money for the new truck.
Fire Chief Brian Comeau wrote to the Seacoast Online (http://bit.ly/UFcZ9U) to request support for the vote.
He details, “Some have questioned whether refurbishing the ladder truck is an option. We have in the past refurbished engines, or at least tried to. We did refurbish a 1984 Mack engine in 2003 for $65,000. It was a reserve piece of apparatus, meaning it was only used when another engine was out of service. That engine was sold in 2010 for $14,500.”
