Estes Valley Fire Protection District Fire Chief Scott Dorman said that the vendors interested in bidding for the Type 3 fire engine have all received requests for proposal (RFPs), but no bids are back yet.
“Since 9/11, (the price for) fire equipment has just skyrocketed,” Dorman told the board. “There’s a big demand for new equipment.”
The supply-and-demand for fire equipment is fueling the EVFPD’s search.
The Lyons fire department just bought a brand-new fire engine for more than $400,000, with all the options, while other departments may be settling for less, at a basic $230,000 level.
The district is accepting donations towards the cost of the truck. The homeowners association from Windcliff has made several donations, amounting to thousands of dollars, from the association, as well as from individual homeowners there.
