Effort to Restore 1925 Hillsborough Fire Truck Underway

The Hillsborough Deputy Fire Chief had been looking for the town’s first ladder truck for years. It was eventually found rotting underneath a barn.

The truck, which had by then lost its radiator, chemical tanks and headlights, was then purchased by a man in Chichester.

Last week, the truck was on display at the Hillsborough Balloon Festival. The goal is to restore the truck to working order and have it ride in the town’s annual parade within three years.

Fundraising is underway, with the expectation that restoration will cost $50,000.
