Volunteers from Raritan Valley Regional Emergency Medical Services held its first RVREMS Community Day on Saturday, July 11, at James Madison School parking lot in Edison
RVREMS is the result of the three Edison First Aid Squads merging, the Edison FARS 1, Edison FAS 2 and Clara Barton FAS. Collectively the three squads have been serving the community since 1935.
“One of the goals of our RVREMS Community Day was to familiarize the residents of Edison with our emergency services,” Ravin Shah, RVREMS President said. “Approximately 80% of our funding comes from donations so Community Day was our way of saying thank you to the residents of Edison for their support.”
On hand where RVREMS vehicles including the Special Teams and Resources (STARS) and Hazardous Tactical (HAZTAC) vehicles. There were also ambulances on display along with fire engines, brush trucks, police cars, rescue trucks and OEM vehicles.
Participating agencies included Raritan Valley Regional EMS, Raritan Engine Co.2, Menlo Park Volunteer Fire Company, Edison Township OEM, Edison Police Auxiliary and Middlesex County OEM. There were about 25 local vendors that participated and donated a portion of their sales to benefit volunteer EMS in our community. The Raritan Bakery located on Amboy Ave. in Edison sponsored a pie eating contest.
