Edison (NJ) Buys $1 Million Fire Apparatus

The Edison Town Council voted last week to buy a new aerial ladder fire truck to replace one that was 17 years old and often under repairs.

The final purchase price was $998,682. The fire truck was in the town’s budget last year, but the purchase wasn’t made until this year. Ten years ago, the town’s insurance underwriter recommended that the town have three aerial ladder trucks.

The town currently has two aerial ladder fire trucks, one that is nine years old and the other 17 years old, according to Fire Chief Brian Latham. The 17-year-old truck will be kept as a backup. The town has had to rely on other towns for mutual assistance while its own trucks were under repair.

Crimson Fire Inc/Spartan ERV, of Brandon S.D. is building the fire truck.
