Donor Offers 25K to Buy Paxton MA Fire Truck

An anonymous donor has offered to pay up to $25,000 to buy the Paxton (MA) Fire Department a used piece of fire apparatus.

Fire Chief Jay Conte told the Board of Selectmen this week that the donor agrees that the best solution would be a purchase of a ladder truck with a pump similar to an existing ladder in the department. The chief said the existing ladder truck is 10 years old and needs refurbishment, which could cost more than $100,000. He also noted the possibility that the apparatus could be out of service for long periods of time. Conte noted that aerial apparatus is generally easier and cheaper.
