El Paso (TX) Fire Department is one step closer to the construction of a new $11.8 fire station with the city council approving a design contract on Tuesday (Sept. 14), according to a report published by KFOX 14.

The television station said the $553,787 design contract for Fire Station 38 was awarded to BRW Architects and local teaming partners.

The new fire station will be constructed on 10-acres of land owned by the city at the intersection of Pebble Hills Boulevard and Tim Foster Street, according to the television station, that the building will be next to the new El Paso Police Eastside Regional Command Center.

Construction on the 10,000 square foot facility, which will have a dormitory, food prep area, office area, fitness space and three apparatus bays, is expected to begin in September 2022, the TV station reported.
