Commissioners gave Crawford County Fire District 1 (KA) approval to purchase two new fire trucks.
Both tankers will serve as backups for the two current fire trucks which are more than 30 years old.
The new trucks will hold 2,000 gallons of water which is double the amount the current ones hold. The fire chief says the upgrade could lower the department’s protection rating. A lowered rating means cheaper property insurance for home owners in the fire district.
Chief Michael Ryan expects the trucks to be delivered by May. They will cost a total of $380,000.
