Crashed Detroit (MI) Fire Apparatus’ Air Bags Didn’t Deploy; Firefighters Concerned

Last week, FA reported that a Detroit (MI) fire apparatus was hit by a car while responding to a call and, as a result, three firefighters were sent to the hospital.

Well, now a Detroit firefighter says there is concern for the safety of the city’s fire apparatus, according to FOX. The firefighter, who asked to proceed with an undisclosed identity, adds that many firefighters in the city are concerned, too.

The truck’s front and side airbags failed to deploy in Thursday’s accident, which also sent a civilian to the hospital. The firefighters suffered minor injuries, and the Detroit Fire Department says everyone has been treated and released, according to the report.

The apparatus in the accident was a 2015 model, and department officials say that, prior to the accident, there was never an issue with airbags.
