Cosmas has developed a new boot for wildland firefighting, the 9-inch lace-up Hercules.
The Italian company said it is the first true mountaineering boot designed for wildland firefighting.
“Cosmas’ boot designs focus not only on protection properties, but also on important ergonomic properties that enhance performance, reduce fatigue and improve balance,” the company said. “Cosmas boots include HeelRoll and ToeSpring technology to promote a natural walking motion and an accordion style flex point in the Achilles area providing give where needed.”
The Cosmas series of firefighting footwear draws on 40 years of Italian footwear design in both the public safety and mountaineering markets.
Earlier this year, the company began selling the Titan, a 14-inch bunker boot for structural fire fighting, and the Atlas, an 11-inch lace/zip boot for structural firefighting, in the United States.
The Hercules, according to the manufacturer, features a soft, full-grain leather collar that ensures comfortable calves; an ankle lock system using a free-floating support strap positioned above the ankle to improve support and to keep the heel in the heelcup, reducing the chance of blisters;
AnkleArmor, contoured ankle guards that protect ankles from knocks and dings; and a welted, high traction, vulcanized rubber outsole with a mountaineering tread for superior grip and stability.
Other features include: MidsoleArmor, a combination composite puncture plate/ladder shank/midsole that provides puncture resistance coverage and thermal insulation for the bottom of the foot; fire-resistant Kevlar thread to ensure durability under fire; a Dual-Zone Contact Lacing System with free floating lace points; and an anti-microbial removable footbed with a molded heelcup and arch for comfort and support.
The company said welted construction allows for resoling to extend the life of its boots.
Since 1971 Cosmas, located in Montebelluna, Italy, has been developing and manufacturing high quality, high performance footwear to meet the needs of mountaineering professionals, firefighters, emergency services personnel and military special forces.
