Columbus will begin advertising to purchase two new fire trucks this week, with an estimated price tag of $1.2 million.
The Board of Public Works and Safety approved the bid specifications Tuesday for purchase of a custom pumper truck and quint.
Fire Chief Dave Allmon said the department used a new bid-preparation process to provide detailed specifications for the custom-designed trucks. The bid specs for the pumper truck were 143 pages, and the quint bid package was 164 pages. They specified every detail of the trucks, down to rechargeable flashlights and the brand of radio chargers.
