Southeastern Illinois College now has a 1970 American LaFrance fire truck donated by the City of Harrisburg.
“The council and I are thrilled to support SIC with this piece of equipment,” Harrisburg Mayor Dale Fowler said. “Someone should be able to use this fire truck, and knowing that SIC students will be able to benefit from this donation for years to come made this a perfect fit.”
One program benefitting from this truck will be the Fire Science program. In 2003, SIC established a Fire Science Training Center on its campus. This offers ongoing education to firefighters across the region.
Along with the Fire Science program, this truck will be used for a number of events and programs at SIC, including the annual regional Mine Rescue Competition, Coal Mine Rescue Safety and Fire Brigade training, Welding Technology and Diesel Technology.
