City Council Agrees to Buy New Fire Trucks

Two weeks after city officials hesitated at a request to purchase new, expensive trucks, the city council in Kenner, Louisiana, has agreed to purchase two Pierce fire trucks from Martin Apparatus for $778,568.

The price quoted from Martin is 24 percent more expensive than the least costly of three proposals by Bonaventure, who submitted a quote in the amount of $628,494, according to
a report on Nola.com.

The city fire chief, John Hellmers, worked with other fire officials to compare proposals from three companies. The article states that according to Hellmers, Pierce trucks have more storage, better brakes, a shorter delivery time and longer warranties. he was also quoted to say in the article that the city fire truck fleet is old, and monthly maintenance costs $1,500 per truck.
