Cicero (NY) Residents Approve $4 Million Fire Station

Voters in the town of Cicero approved a plan to build a new fire station. The vote passed 80-32.

The plan calls for selling property owned by the fire district to the Cicero Fire Department and then letting the fire department build the new fire station there. The Cicero Fire District would then lease the building from the department.

Fire district officials had said the plan to build the station would not increase taxes. The district has proposed a nine percent increase in its 2015 budget. The town has proposed a 0 percent increase in its payment to the department.

Residents in February rejected a proposal to spend $5.6 million to tear down the existing Fire Station 1 on Brewerton Road and build a new one. The project would have raised annual taxes about $75 on a house valued at $100,000.
