The 2014 Pierce/Darley ladder truck — the newest addition to the Chippewa Falls Fire Department that the city received in March — has already needed repairs, and it hasn’t been used on a fire call yet.
Battalion Chief Lee Douglas said that the truck was sent to an authorized Pierce repair shop about 10 days ago.
The department has been training with the truck extensively. Recently, firefighters noticed that something wasn’t working quite right when the boom that holds the platform was up in the air.
Douglas emphasized that the truck was under control despite the glitch. The problem likely involved the truck’s hydraulic systems.
The truck is under warranty and so was sent back for troubleshooting and repair at no cost to the department. The repairs took a little longer than expected, but Douglas said the truck should be back soon.
