Cherokee Nation Invests in 136 Oklahoma Fire Departments

Cherokee Nation is contributing nearly half a million dollars total to 136 rural Oklahoma fire departments, reports Muskogee Phoenix.

Traditionally, checks for $3,500 each are distributed to the departments when the tribe holds its annual Volunteer Firefighter Appreciation Banquet. But, COVID-19 has altered plans.

The contributions help to support volunteer fire departments, which otherwise rely on fundraisers, membership dues and the help of good Samaritans to maintain their vital operations.
