Charlotte (NC) Fire Apparatus Struck During Rescue Call

A Charlotte Fire Department (NC) engine was struck by another vehicle as it responded to a rescue call Thursday night.

The four firefighters in the truck were not injured, but they helped free two passengers of the other vehicle involved in the collision, officials said. The two passengers of the sedan were taken to an area hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The sedan with two passengers struck the left side of the truck as it prepared to turn, and both vehicles came to rest against the concrete median.

The accident is under investigation. A fire official said the fire truck had its lights and sirens on at the time of the accident.
