Captain Pleads Not Guilty in Fire Apparatus Crash Cover-Up

CLEVELAND, OH–One of two Cleveland firefighters accused of covering up a June crash involving a fire apparatus. Captain Ronald Vargo has pleased not guilty to charges including falsification.

Vargo and Firefighter Richard Nickerson are accused of causing more than $20,000 in damge to the department’s Ladder 36 after crashing it into a light pole in June and trying to cover up the accident.

According to, the firefighters told investigators that a vehicle served in front of the fire truck, causing the colission. However, security camera footage indicates otherwise, according to a city spokeswoman.
