After much discussion, the Bucksport (ME) Town Council voted 6-1 to approve the purchase of a fire apparatus.
The talks centered around the process of collecting bids and why so few were returned. One councilor questioned why Fire Chief Craig Bowden presented the council with only two bids for a price on the new fire truck.
Bowden explained that nine bid packages were sent to companies, but many times companies won’t send anything back because of department specifications.
Residents had approved the truck purchase on a recent referendum ballot.
