Brunswick (ME) Wants to Replace Older Fire Apparatus

Brunswick Fire Department officials want to replace a 26-year-old water truck, reports Portland Press Herald.

A 2,000 gallon tanker truck would increase Brunswick’s water carrying capacity by more than 1,000 gallons, but has a price tag of about $425,000. The 1,000-1,500 increase in water capacity will make a difference in the department’s ability.

The truck is already included in the town’s Capital Improvement Program. There is a possibility of placing a bulk order alongside fire departments from Freeport and Yarmouth that would provide savings.

Brunswick residents will be able to share their opinion on the vehicle purchase at a public hearing Oct. 19. Plans for the new fire station are still under review by the town’s planning board. The project’s $13.5 million budget is expected to be slightly higher.
