Water and sewage flooded Fire Station Number 4 over the weekend.
“All the rain water we had over the weekend was going through this clean out pipe. It was pushing all the water back into the building,” said Craig Duke, assistant chief of the Kansas City, Kan. Fire Department.
The culprit was a broken pipe. Duke said it was damaged when another bathroom was built, but no one knew about it.
The firefighters were moved to another station down the street. This will cause a two-minute delay in response time.
The building has been cleaned and sanitized, but the damages will be costly. Though Duke has been working closely with the Unified Government to get the building back up and running, he is unsure when it will be ready.
