Bridge City Fire Chief Gary Girar has announced that the department recently received new air packs.
He credited Jefferson Parish Councilman Paul Johnston with funding the equipment.
Girard said that every 15 years, the equipment needs to be replaced, and with the funding, they were able to upgrade to air packs with communication possibilities.
Also, the department recently purchased a Lucas compression device with funds from state Rep. Robert Billiot last year.
The device is designed to help cardiac arrest victims and improve operations for medical responders by performing at least 100 compressions per minute with minimal interruption to patient care.
