Bethel (CT) May Form Fire Commission After Fire Apparatus Controversy

Bethel may form a Fire Commission after a controversy over the repair of a ladder truck, reports

The proposed five members of the commission would develop long-term plans for new equipment, building maintenance and other needs for the two volunteer fire departments. They would work with town and economic development officials. Part of the commission’s job would be to ensure vehicle maintenance and repair records are kept. The VFD fire chiefs would present their annual budgets to the commission, which would bring the proposal to the boards of selectmen and finance.

In January, a public hearing will be held on the plan. If the commission is approved, one of the first equipment needs is expected to be self-contained breathing apparatuses.

The fire apparatus that sparked the controversy still either needs to be repaired or replaced.
