BALTIMORE, Md. -The Baltimore Fire Department is using a Draeger mobile on-site self-contained breathing air (SCBA) and personal protective equipment (PPE) service trailer that supports training excercises and provides mutual aid to surrounding communities and/or remote areas.

The trailer allows Baltimore firefighters to perform repairs and service to their personal protective equipment and gas detectors. Originally designed to support training excercises, the trailer has been providing comprehensive operations at remote locations within the Central Maryland Region, according to the trailer maker.

During some emergencies, personnel may be required to stay on the scene for extended periods, making equipment repairs and servicing a major obstacle. The Draeger Safety On-Site Service Trailer allows the user to handle any equipment refilling, calibration and adjustments without calling the station and having the parts, tools and spare equipment rushed to and from the scene, according to Draeger. All forms of personal protective equipment can be cleaned, checked and repaired if necessary and sent back into the field with a minimum turnaround time.

The trailer is designed to accommodate 45 SCBAs and 10 Draeger closed-circuit breathing apparatus consumables. It can refill SCBA cylinders and closed-circuit breathing apparatus oxygen cylinders and their spares. The trailer can perform fit testing and flow checks on Draeger SCBAs and power a calibrating station for portable gas detection equipment.

Draeger Safety Solutions is the only company in North America that has designed and constructed custom mobile service centers that contain both air and oxygen servicing equipment.
