Five people were injured shortly before 1 p.m in a multi-vehicle collision involving a Lyndhurst ambulance that overturned onto a parked vehicle.
The cause of the accident, at the intersection of Ridge Road and Second Avenue, is under investigation.
Lyndhurst Police Chief James O’Connor said the ambulance was headed east on Second Avenue on its way to a previous motor vehicle accident, when it collided with another vehicle going in the opposite direction. The ambulance rolled over onto a parked vehicle, which was unoccupied.
The driver of the ambulance and one other passenger were injured and taken to University Hospital in Newark. The drivers of the other two vehicles were taken to Hackensack University Hospital, and a female passenger in one of the vehicles was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Passaic. There were no patients in the ambulance, O’Connor said.
O’Connor said all the injuries were not life-threatening and all the victims are expected to recover.
