CANTON — Chief Charles Doody is pleased to announce that the Canton Fire Department has received a new ambulance.
The department received delivery of its new Ambulance 1, a 2020 Ford F550 4X4 Horton Type 1 Ambulance, from North Attleboro-based Greenwood Emergency Vehicles on Tuesday, Oct. 20.
Over the next several days the department will be preparing the vehicle for the State Office of Emergency Medical Services (OEMS) inspection to certify the vehicle prior to it being put into service. The new ambulance will be put into service the first week of November.
The new ambulance features a Stryker power loading system that improves operator and patient safety by supporting the cot throughout the loading and unloading process. The new ambulance is also equipped with a Lucas Chest Compression Device and a LifePak 15 cardiac monitor.
The purchase of the new Ambulance 1 was part of the Town of Canton’s 6-year Capital Plan to replace vehicles and equipment for all municipal departments. This ambulance was a scheduled purchase to replace the previous Ambulance 1, which was put into service in 2016.
“We are extremely proud to add this ambulance to our fleet,” Chief Doody said. “The addition of this new unit ensures we have the latest and best vehicles and equipment to serve our community and we are excited to be able to put our new Ambulance 1 into service very soon.”
The new ambulance joins the department’s existing fleet, which includes two front line ambulances and one reserve ambulance. Once in service, the new ambulance will be housed at Canton Fire Station 1.
