Amarillo (TX) FD Upgrading Aging Fleet with $13M Investment

The Amarillo Fire Department is investing more than $13 million to enhance its fleet with six new pumpers and two ladder trucks, abc7amarillo.com.

More than half of the pumpers in Amarillo are more than 10 years old, the report said. A fire official said once fire apparatus hit five years, repairs start to accumulate. The department’s replacement plan is part of a long-term strategy to reduce overall costs.

The first set of new fire apparatus, built to the department’s specifications, is expected to be delivered in about 18 months, according to the report.
