99-Year-Old Iowa City (IA) Woman Killed After Being Struck by Fire Apparatus

A 99-year-old Iowa City woman was killed early Sunday morning after being struck by an Iowa City Fire Department apparatus, press-citizen.com reported.

The fire department was called to Legacy Senior Living for a medical call.

Evelyn Bothmer, 99, was struck by an Iowa City Fire Department apparatus that was leaving the scene, according to an Iowa State Patrol crash report. Bothmer, who was described as a pedestrian, died at the scene, the report said.

The Iowa City Fire Department requested the Iowa State Patrol’s assistance in investigating the incident, according to a news release from the city, the report said.

At 6:46 a.m., Sunday, Feb. 23, 2025, the Iowa City Fire Department responded to a medical call at Legacy Senior Living, 1020 S. Scott Blvd. While leaving the scene and returning to routine service, the fire apparatus was involved in an accident with a pedestrian that resulted in a fatality.
