The Board of Commissioners could purchase the first items funded by the Whitfield County’s Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax tonight.
The board is scheduled to vote on the $163,170 purchase of turnout gear and protective equipment for the fire department from NAFECO of Decatur (AL) and the $336,822.50 purchase of self-contained breathing apparatuses from Municipal Emergency Services of Charlotte (NC).
The equipment is part of the “Priority 1” projects that will be funded by the SPLOST. The plan is to pay for the items out of the general fund balance and then repay that money from the proceeds of $27 million in bonds the county plans to have by mid-August.
