The Northwoods Fire and Rescue Department has received a $16,000 grant that will be used to purchase equipment.
The department was awarded the 2015 N.C. Volunteer Fire Department Fund grant on Friday.
“Fire and rescue organizations protect our communities, large and small, across North Carolina, but sometimes their budgets don’t grow with their responsibilities,” Wayne Goodwin, insurance commissioner and state fire marshal, said. “Our emergency service personnel should be supported with the best equipment and supplies needed to do their jobs correctly and safely.”
Since 2014, the Northwoods Fire and Rescue program has received $171,844.34 in grant money from the N.C. Volunteer Fire Department Fund.
Along with the grant, locally raised, dollar-for-dollar matching funds will be approved by the Department of Insurance Office of State Fire Marshal, and will aid in the purchasing of the equipment. For more information, view www.robesonian.com
