Haddon Township (NJ) Fire Department Awarded Grant for Fire Equipment

The township fire department was awarded a federal grant that will be used to purchase new equipment for firefighters, officials said.

The $325,905 grant was awarded through FEMA’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant program, which is designed to help communities meet their emergency response needs without putting too much of a burden on they local budgets.

The department plans on using the funds to purchase new air tanks (also known as self-contained breathing apparatuses, or SCBA) and new protective clothing for firefighters.

Congressman Donald Norcross (D-1) advocated for the grant to help the volunteer department.

“Grants like this are the lifeblood for departments like Haddon Township’s,” he said in a statement released Wednesday. “This federal grant will allow the men and women of this department to have the most up to date life-saving equipment without having to make harmful budget cuts or add local taxes.”
