Five Cities Fire Authority (CA) to Buy Fire Equipment with Grant

A new custom command vehicle and thermal imaging equipment are heading to the Five Cities Fire Authority, thanks to donations from two private insurance companies.

The agency said in a news release Wednesday that Southern California-based Momentous Insurance Brokerage Inc. and San Francisco-based Fireman’s Fund Insurance Co. provided grants totaling $38,093 to help the agency acquire a 2015 Police Interceptor model Ford Explorer as well as thermal imaging cameras to assist firefighters in seeing through thick smoke and darkness.

The vehicle, procured through a California Department of General Services contract, is similar to those used by the California Highway Patrol and is outfitted with emergency lighting, a custom command center and a solar panel to support the various electrical equipment.

With the cameras, firefighters will be better able to identify hot spots inside walls, navigate collapsed structures and locate victims of traffic accidents who may have been ejected from a vehicle.

The Fire Authority was selected by Momentous Insurance Brokerage Inc., which has donated to the small agency in the past, as well as the Fireman’s Fund Insurance Co., as part of its nationwide philanthropic program.
