Cars Damaged When Virginia Beach (VA) FD Hose Snaps

A Virginia Beach Fire Department (VBFD) hose spilled out of the back of an apparatus, got lodged under a car tire, and split at a coupling causing a recoil that damaged a number of parked cars recently, wavy.com reported.

The VBFD was responding to a call, and when the crew was leaving, the engine was going through a parking lot, the report said. After going over speed bumps, the 1¾-inch hose bundle at the back of the rig detached and spilled out of the rig. VBFD said the hosebed netting was secured, according to the report.

The loose hose got stuck under a parked car’s front tire, and the remaining 400 feet of hose unraveled, according to VBFD, the report said.

After the hose fully deployed, it tightened, resulting in the movement of several parked vehicles along the street, according to the VBFD, the report said. The hose eventually split at a coupling, causing a recoil effect. Once it split, it hit multiple cars in the parking lot and on the side of the street.

There were no injuries reported. The VBFD said the incident resulted in property damage, the report said.
