Federal Grant for Auburn NY for Safety Equipment

The Auburn Fire Department (NY) has received $166,815 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to buy personal protective equipment and emergency escape systems.

In a letter to FEMA Administrator W. Craig Fugate supporting the grant, Gillibrand wrote that the department’s current equipment will no longer be compliant with National Fire Protection Association regulations and currently none of the Auburn firefighters are equiped with compliant EES.

Auburn Fire Chief Jeff Dygert thanked U.S. Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand for their help in getting the grant for the 75-person department. “The award of this Assistance to Firefighters Grant will enable the department to provide safe quality protective gear and emergency escape systems to our firefighters so that they can safely and effectively carry-out their dangerous service to the community,” he said.
