Fire officials in Peabody (MA) will receive a $2,000 grant from FM Global Insurance Company for the purchase of portable LED lights, which will aid in fighting and investigating fires at night.
These lights will assist fire investigators as they do not need to be hooked up to an apparatus, as larger units do.
“These are smaller units. If a fire knocked out the power inside the house, we’d be able to light it up on the interior,” Deputy Chief Richard Nelson said. “At the moment we have to stretch things from the apparatus, or like if we have a bigger fire scene we can use the big kind of stuff like they use on the highways…it’s much smaller scale stuff.”
FM Global’s website states that fire departments and brigades, as well as national, state, regional, local and community organizations, can apply for funding to support a wide array of fire prevention, preparedness and control efforts.
