It’s a very exciting time for the six volunteer fire departments in Breathitt County, Watts-Caney Fire & Rescue announced in a Facebook post recently.
Late in 2022 we were awarded a Homeland Security Communications Grant for the purchase of new radio equipment for every active volunteer firefighter and every fire apparatus in Breathitt County. Thanks goes to Kentucky River Area Development District (KRADD) who wrote this grant.
In late August 2023 we took delivery of all the communications equipment. Programming, distribution, and training on the handheld radios was completed late September 2023. The next phase will be programming and installation of the mobile radios as well as training fire personnel.
We would also like to thank Watts-Caney Fire Chief Tim Osborne who has facilitated this grant as well as programmed and trained all active volunteers who received a radio.
Watts-Caney Fire & Rescue Awarded Six New SCBA
We would like give a shout out to the Gary Sinise Foundation, Watts-Caney Fire & Rescue announced on Facebook.
During the flood last year, we lost all our SCBAs. During the time when our resources were very limited, the Gary Sinise Foundation filled a huge gap in our equipment needs by purchasing six new SCBA. We are very thankful for this generous donation.
