Ste. Genevieve County (MO) to Purchase Power Loaders

The Ste. Genevieve County Ambulance District has decided to move ahead with plans to purchase six new power loaders and two new stretchers — at a cost of $213,344 — from Stryker, a Chicago-based equipment manufacturer.

Members of the board were rethinking their October 2 decision to buy the equipment, following the discovery that installation fees were not included in the quoted price, but voted 5-0 November 6 to go ahead with the purchase once Stryker representative Marc Oberkirsch offered to “eat” the installation charges.

The district has seven ambulances, but decided to equip only six with power loaders since one truck is scheduled to be replaced next year. The new truck will be outfitted with a power load system when it is purchased.

Two installation options were presented November 6. Under one, installation would cost about $1,300 per truck for a total of roughly $7,800; under the other, the fee would be about $1,500 per truck for a total of approximately $9,000. The board authorized the expense of $1,300 per truck.

District officials set aside $35,000 in 2013-14 for the power loaders and stretchers. The equipment will be paid off via a six-year lease at a 0 percent interest rate.
